In February 2023, we were approached by Jess Esposito of Studio 68b, to participate in a hand knitting project. Although she could not share the details, she believed that Cécile Jeffrey would be a perfect for it.
Our expertise lies in machine knitting. Never having been commissioned to design and produce hand knitting patterns, there was some hesitation on our part. But, after some persuasion, it was decided that we should jump out of the comfort zone and at least find out what was required.
She revealed that we would be involved in designing for the first licensed book of patterns inspired by the The Beatles legacy. The excitement was instant, the weight of designing for such a cultural phenomenon, palpable. These hand knit designs would be published in a book enabling fans to recreate heritage pieces for friends and family.
The graphics were sent to us, they were so strong and evocative; we felt there were endless design possibilities. Our imaginations ran free.
In the end we were commissioned to produce four hand knit patterns for the book: Sgt Pepper & The Sea of Holes sweaters, The Yellow Submarine baby romper and The Love Revolution wrap.
This has been a fantastic project to be involved in. The book is a delight to behold, featuring beautiful imagery, thoughtful writing, even the stitch charts are absolutely gorgeous.
